Ortofon: New 2M Black LVB 250 cartridge
Ortofon's current 2M Black is regarded as one of the best MM cartridges on the market, and in this celebratory version it has been further improved. This new head does not replace the current 2M Black, but is placed at the top of the range.
This year, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's birth, Ortofon has produced an exclusive cartridge, the 2M Black LVB 250. This cartridge thus becomes the flagship of the 2M series, positioning itself right above the current and excellent 2M Black. And it is precisely from the base of the 2M Black that Ortofon has started to create this cartridge, improving it, making modifications that take advantage of new materials and new processing technologies.
The 2M Black LVB 250 uses a Nude Shibata diamond on a boron cantilever, a combination already used on the MC Cadenza Black cartridge. The thin, glossy profile of the Nude Shibata stylus creates an extremely large contact area with the record groove wall, ensuring faithful and detailed reproduction throughout the audio spectrum, even at the highest frequencies.
The use of an extremely stiff, yet lightweight boron cantilever adds remarkable sonic clarity, speed and dynamics.
Furthermore, to obtain an optimal interaction between compliance and damping, a new rubber suspension has been developed, which is based on a composite formula called Multi Wall Carbon Nano Tubes (MWCNT) which is very efficient especially in filling the nano-cavities. that are created in the various manufacturing processes.
The new composite has extraordinary mechanical properties, which guarantee better damping and improve the overall performance of the cartridge. Furthermore, the new MWCNT rubber alloy guarantees environmental sustainability, which is indispensable for the future. MWCNT powder is applied in an already rubber polymer matrix and not a powder compound; this step makes the production process cleaner, non-polluting and energy saving.
PERFORMANCE AND COMPATIBILITY
With an optimum weight of 7.2g and a compliance of 22μm/mN, this cartridge is able to fit most modern tonearms without problems.
The 2M Black LVB 250 was designed to be easily compatible with an infinite number of modern and non-modern hi-fi turntables, both mid-range and high-end and as the ultimate solution for high fidelity sound reproduction.
