Description
The OSIRIS is the culmination of 32 years of experience by Rega engineers in the development of solid state amplifiers. No compromises, very high performance, 162W into 8 ohms (250W into 4 ohms), Osiris is a dual-mono amplifier inserted in a special aluminum cabinet with computer numerical control machining and with very high efficiency cooling fins. Designed around a "minimalist" high gain power amp and a "passive" preamp circuit, with a single amplifier stage between the input and the speakers, the Osiris offers unsurpassed performance in terms of build quality and sound.
All these features combined create the exceptional level of performance you will find in Osiris and make it the ideal partner for the Isis CD player. At Rega we believe that you will enjoy listening to this product as much as we enjoyed building it.
The Osiris uses a low distortion, high linearity, wide bandwidth common base voltage amplifier driver amplifier stage. This type of symmetrical circuitry will provide voltage ranges necessary to allow Osiris to drive any loudspeaker system with the minimum possible distortion. Eight 200W Sanken output transistors are used in a high-current “triple” output stage that allows Osiris to drive even the most demanding loudspeaker systems with ease. The differential input amplifier in cascode configuration uses two selected low noise LEDs as current sources. Feedback levels and amplifier components are optimized for defined and controlled sound imaging, especially at the low-frequency ends of the audio range. Nichicon manufactured audio specific capacitors are used in the bypass and decoupling positions. The electrolytic capacitors have been bypassed where necessary, with polyester capacitors for improved high frequency performance. Low inductance metal film power resistors are used in the final stage.
DIET
Osiris uses two purpose built 400VA low noise toroidal transformers with high quality material windings. They are mounted to the cabinet using an innovative technique developed by Rega which eliminates noise transfer to the stand when the transformers are fed from a mains line characterized by high levels of asymmetrical distortion. These transformers are combined with two 40.000μF Rega K-Power capacitors per channel, so as to supply abundant current even for the most difficult loads. All power supplies use fast rectifier diodes: fast diodes generate less high-frequency noise, so as to obtain a cleaner direct current. The input stages and low-level driver stages are powered by symmetrical regulated power supply stages, so as to obtain a fully stabilized low-noise supply voltage, ensuring a very high level of sonic purity. All power supplies dedicated to the audio circuits power the audio circuits only, the input switching circuit, display circuit, control circuit and protection circuit have their own dedicated power circuits to keep the audio signal as clean as possible.
