With conventional planar magnetic designs, the diaphragm excursion is limited, and the diaphragm contacts the magnets easily. To solve this problem, Final made numerous measurements by performing diaphragm simulations with the finite element method and laser Doppler analysis, developing a new diaphragm braking technology known as AFDS – Air Film Damping System of air).
In doing so, the shortcoming of planar magnetic models which was the poor extension in the low range was solved, this technology could be considered a reinvention of planar magnetic models.
With the D8000, the problem of the diaphragm contacting the magnets was solved through the AFDS (Air Film Damping System), and it was possible to extend the minimum frequency that the driver unit can reproduce. In combination with the open ear cups, the D8000 reproduces low frequencies like the best dynamic models.
