The Q Acoustics 5040 is the compact floorstander of the 5000 series: two 125 mm C3 mid/bass drivers and a 25 mm tweeter in a column with a small footprint, for rooms where space is tight. It is supplied as a pair.
5040: compact tower with two 125 mm C3 drivers and HPE tubes
The 5040 is a tower on a modest base, suited to anyone who wants floorstander performance without giving up much floor area. Its two 125 mm mid/bass drivers adopt the C3 Continuous Curved Cone profile: a continuously curved diaphragm that improves bass dynamics and makes the join with the tweeter more fluid. They are drive units designed from scratch for this series, with greater power handling. The 25 mm tweeter, in a new housing, follows the Concept layout: airtight and decoupled from the baffle.
A tall, narrow enclosure is prone to a build-up of pressure inside, which gives rise to standing waves and colouration. That is why the 5040 contains HPE (Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser) tubes, which offset those pressures and even out the response. P2P (Point to Point) braces stiffen the panels where needed and hold down vibration at low frequencies. The baffle, laminated in butyl rubber and trimmed in black acrylic, damps vibration and shows no visible screws.
Stated response is 39 Hz-30 kHz at -6 dB, with 91.5 dB sensitivity, 6 ohms nominal and a 3 ohm minimum; the suggested amplifier ranges from 25 to 150 W. Internal volume is 27 litres. With spikes and stabiliser each speaker measures 96.7 x 36.1 x 29.3 cm and weighs 18 kg. Supplied with a grille, foam bung, spikes with covers and rear stabilisers.
