The Q Acoustics 5020 is the standmount speaker of the 5000 series: a 125 mm C3 mid/bass driver, a 25 mm tweeter and a 6.8 litre cabinet that gives scale to the sound without dominating the room. It is supplied as a pair.
5020: 125 mm C3 mid/bass driver and Concept-derived tweeter
The 125 mm mid/bass driver uses the C3 Continuous Curved Cone profile, which made its debut with this very series. The diaphragm describes one single curve, without the change of slope found in traditional cones: bass gains in dynamics and the output joins that of the tweeter more naturally. The drive unit is a fresh design with greater power handling, and on the front its outline is echoed by the dark acrylic surround that frames both units.
High frequencies are handled by a 25 mm tweeter that descends from the Concept series, here in a redesigned housing. It is hermetically closed and floats relative to the baffle, so that neither internal pressure nor vibration coming off the mid/bass cone muddies its output. The front panel is bonded to a butyl rubber damping layer, while P2P (Point to Point) internal braces cut vibration at low frequencies and improve the precision of the soundstage.
The stated figures are 53 Hz-30 kHz at -6 dB, 87.9 dB sensitivity and 6 ohms nominal with a 3.3 ohm minimum; the suggested amplifier ranges from 25 to 100 W. Each speaker measures 28.4 x 18 x 29.3 cm and weighs 7 kg, with grilles and foam bungs included. For installation, the Q FS50 and Q FS75 stands and the Q WB75 wall bracket are compatible.
