Our preamps embody everything we believe in. Starting with the groundbreaking 1974 NAC 12, Naim preamplifiers rewrote the rules and standards for those who came after. The NAC 552, our reference model is no different: the two box configuration makes it an outsider and certainly its unlimited musicality reflects the values we hold most dear. It's the best preamp we've ever made, and consequently the best available today.
Characteristics
- Two-box configuration for eliminating electromagnetic interference
- Dual rail power supply with 800 VA toroidal transformer, three filter capacitors and new Discrete Regulator (DR)
- Fully suspended subframe for maximum isolation of sensitive circuits
- AV bypass mode for easy connection to existing AV systems
- Support for DIN and RCA inputs to facilitate connection to a wider range of systems
- Independent bars for listening and recording for maximum flexibility
- Assignable inputs for ease of use with a wide range of sources
Technology and Construction
Like every single component of our reference range, the 500 series, the NAC 552 has also been developed without compromises or limits. Its two-box design, which houses the power components in a separate cabinet to better control electromagnetic interference, is a Naim classic. On the contrary, the same power supply uses completely innovative concepts, including the new split rail configuration which almost completely eliminates the noise of the power supply in the ground signal.
The most sound-sensitive electronics of the NAC 552 are mounted on a brass sub-chassis fully suspended on coil springs at a frequency below the audible limit for the human ear. This method of suspension minimizes the effect of vibration on sensitive electronic components. Precision carefully selected potentiometers in precious metals are used to preserve musical integrity and ensure stability over time.
The six inputs of the NAC 552 can be selected directly from either the front panel or the handset. In addition to the usual DIN inputs, preferable for their better impedance to ground ratio, NAC 552 owners will be able to configure two of the available inputs with the more common RCA phono connectors, so as to connect alternative components with interconnect cables already in possession.
