Naim NAP 500 DR is the 500 Series power amplifier, delivering 140 W into 8 ohms per channel with bridged topology, NA009 transistors and dedicated external power.
The single Naim NAP 500 DR is sold as one stereo amplifier system but uses two chassis: the main unit contains both amplification channels while the separate 500 PS houses the power section. It naturally partners NAC 552 but can also work with other compatible Naim preamplifiers when the correct connection scheme is used.

NAP 500 DR and NAP 350 are not defined by wattage alone
A pair of New Classic NAP 350 monoblocks delivers 175 W into 8 ohms per channel and uses two units with internal supplies. NAP 500 DR is rated at 140 W per channel but adopts a bridged stereo amplifier with a separate 500 PS and a local regulation structure containing ten stages for each channel.
Four chassis with NAC 552
Partnered with NAC 552, the complete amplifier uses two chassis for the preamplifier and two for the power stage. This separation moves transformers and power circuitry away from sensitive signal electronics and makes dedicated interconnection part of the 500 Series architecture.

Statement NAP S1 uses two 746 W-into-8-ohm monoblocks, each with a 4000 VA transformer integrated into its base. NAP 500 DR instead keeps two channels in one audio chassis and delegates power delivery to a single external 500 PS, so the distinction concerns topology, available output and the physical organisation of the system. The 500 PS is an integral part of the amplifier system and is not interchangeable with supplies intended for sources or preamplifiers.
