Description
The first product in our Reference 500 series, the NAP 500 is the perfect expression of Naim amplification technology. Its design took 6 years of team work with special peer suppliers and each product requires days of dedicated work by our most capable Salisbury engineers. It's this attention to detail, coupled with formidable power, that allows the NAP 500 to let you hear your music down to the finest detail.
New Statement Technology
Our very high amplification system statement it took ten years of work. The research and development project has gathered all our knowledge and experience, leading us to several technological innovations. We have recently introduced two new technologies stemming from the Statement design into our range of power amplifiers.
The NAP 500 is now equipped with the new NA009 transistors introduced in the Statement. This key component, which took more than a year to develop, was created in collaboration with a semi-conductor specialist to achieve the best possible sound quality. The 500 also includes the Naim Audio DR (Discrete Regulator) technology used in the Statement to deliver the smooth and stable power supply we know is critical for audio electronics to bring music to life.
These two new technologies, combined with other minor improvements to the layout and components, lead the NAP 500 DR to produce even more of the musical pitch, rhythm and tempo that made the original products so popular.
Characteristics
- 140W per channel into 8 ohms; manages to extend the output into 2 ohms without impacting performance
- bridge amplifier configuration for increased speed in both open and closed loop, with ten stages of regulation per channel
- two chassis configuration with the 500 PS power supply for better electromagnetic interference blocking
- 1,100VA toroidal transformer provides 12 DC supplies for the amplifier
- 25kg brushed and anodized chassis with separate heat sink and intelligent variable fan system for extra cooling if needed
The NAP 500 offers 140W per channel into 8 ohms and manages to extend the output into 2 ohms without impacting performance. The twin chassis setup is classic Naim, with power fully shifted to the separate 500PS for perfect performance. Each channel of the NAP 500 includes ten stages of regulation. To further reduce interference from the home mains, the transformer and first stage power supplies are separate in the 500PS which provides 12 DC supplies for the amplifier.
A bridge configuration allows for higher speed in both open and closed loops, less intrusive protection circuitry, and reduced interaction between input and output signals because the very high currents going to the loudspeakers do not pass through the system ground. The NAP 500 also has a specially designed advanced output transistor, model NA009. The circuit topology was developed to maximize bandwidth and reduce distortion and power dependency. We have also paid much attention to the reduction of noise generated by heat, an always very important topic in power amplifiers.
