A linear power supply with two outputs, one for a 15 V DC turntable and one for the phono preamplifier: it replaces the standard adapters of the whole Pro-Ject analogue chain.
Power Box RS2 Phono: how it is built
The Power Box RS2 Phono powers together the two components on which vinyl playback depends, the turntable and the phono stage. Pro-Ject declares it compatible with all its Phono Boxes and with every one of its turntables running on 15 V DC; in the Italian distributor's list it is presented as the supply intended for the Phono Box RS2.
It is a linear, non-switching supply built around an audio-type toroidal transformer with copper-foil shielding, which isolates the equipment from the mains and blocks interference before it gets there. Compared with a standard adapter it has a much larger power reserve and a very low output impedance. The voltage is rectified and precisely regulated, filtering uses 10,000 µF of low-ESR capacitors, and a soft start avoids the current surge at switch-on.
The two outputs supply 15 V at 2 A to the turntable and ±18 V at 2 A to the phono stage, both with residual ripple within 0.5%. According to Pro-Ject the outcome is a wider soundstage, a quieter background and better resolution of fine detail. Connect it Power cables, 1 m long, come in the box; the enclosure is aluminium throughout.
