Analogue interconnect in PSC+ copper with purple copper plugs
Big Sur is an analogue interconnect with solid-core wires in Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) and gold-plated terminations in pure purple copper. It links turntables, TVs, AV receivers, soundbars and other sources, and comes with five-pin DIN plugs as well as RCA and mini-jack.
Six terminations and ten lengths make it a fit for very different systems.
Conductors and geometry
Solid-core PSC+ copper lowers the distortion tied to the grain boundaries of the metal and favours linear dissipation of radio-frequency noise. With no strands, electrical and magnetic interplay among wires is ruled out. The Asymmetrical Double-Balanced layout, intended for single-ended links, gives ground and shield two separate routes and brings the ground to a lower impedance.
Insulation and noise reduction
The insulation is foamed polyethylene (Foamed-PE), a low-loss material that, owing to its high air content, stores little energy and limits timing errors.
The Metal-Layer Noise-Dissipation system protects the shield with extra layers that absorb and reflect radio interference before it arrives at the ground of the components.
Terminations and lengths
The terminations are gold-plated Pure Purple Copper and are cold-welded, with no solder. Lengths: 0.6 m, 1 m, 1.5 m, 2 m, 3 m, 5 m, 8 m, 12 m, 16 m and 20 m.
- RCA to RCA: the classic link between a line-level source and the input of an amplifier or AV receiver.
- 3.5mm to RCA: carries the signal of a device fitted with a mini-jack socket to the RCA inputs of the system.
- 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male: joins two devices that both have a mini-jack socket.
- 3.5mm to 5-Pin DIN: connects a mini-jack socket to equipment fitted with a five-pin DIN socket.
- 5-Pin DIN to 5-Pin DIN: for electronics that use the DIN socket at both ends.
- 5-Pin DIN to RCA: links one component with a DIN socket to another with RCA sockets.
