Diamond Coax: digital coaxial cable in solid PSS silver with 72 V DBS and RF Trap
AudioQuest Diamond Coax is a coaxial cable for digital audio built with the finest metal in the brand's catalogue: Perfect-Surface Silver. This is no longer silver-plated copper, as on the models below it, but a conductor made entirely of silver, joined by a six-layer shield and by an insulation biasing system complete with RF Trap.
Solid Perfect-Surface Silver conductors
The conductor is a solid wire of Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS). The single cross-section rules out any electrical or magnetic interplay from strand to strand, regarded as an important cause of dynamic distortion in cables. The quality of the metal's surface and structure keeps the distortion generated at grain boundaries to a minimum and makes RF noise dissipation as linear as possible, a decisive point when the signal is digital and occupies very high frequencies.
Six-layer shielding and DBS with RF Trap
The Noise-Dissipation System (NDS) in Diamond Coax counts six layers in which metal alternates with synthetics loaded with carbon. Its job is to stop the radio-frequency interference captured by the shield from ending up on the ground of the components and altering their reference: most of the energy is absorbed and reflected ahead of the layer connected to ground. The 72 V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS), here fitted with an RF Trap, biases the insulation, which as a dielectric can act as a shunt filter; the bias lowers its noise and linearises its response, helping wide-band dissipation of induced RF noise.
Insulation, terminations and lengths
Hard-Cell Foam insulation, a rigid foam with nitrogen, absorbs very little energy and preserves the cable's geometry over its whole run, with a stable impedance. The terminations are cold-welded and made of pure Red Copper, with Hanging-Silver plating applied straight onto the copper. Diamond Coax is sold as a single cable in 0.75 m, 1 m, 1.5 m, 2 m, 3 m and 5 m lengths.
