Dragon 48: a 48 Gbps silver HDMI cable with Level 7 Noise-Dissipation
Dragon 48 is a 48 Gbps HDMI cable designed with audio as the first concern. The precision and the narrower manufacturing tolerances this bandwidth calls for make the materials and construction methods AudioQuest has long relied on count even more.
The bandwidth is spread over four balanced pairs of 12 Gbps each and carries 8K video and, in professional use, signals as high as 10K Ultra HD. The cable remains fully backwards compatible with current 4K equipment, which in turn benefits from the more careful construction.
Silver conductors and drain wires
The conductors are solid silver of the Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) grade throughout, which is the highest-grade metal AudioQuest uses. In Dragon 48 the drain wires are PSS too, which improves noise dissipation further. Solid wire cancels the magnetic and electrical interplay from one strand to the next, and both conductors and drains are Direction-Controlled, that is, laid in the direction that removes radio-frequency noise most effectively.
Noise reduction
Level 7 Noise-Dissipation combines several measures. The four FRL pairs and the eARC pair are surrounded by a carbon layer enriched with graphene, closed between metal layers; a second high-loss carbon layer wraps the whole set of conductors. Added to these are the patented 72 V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) and the PSS silver drain wires.
4K, 8K and gaming
Dragon 48 handles the advanced gaming functions 4K120, VRR, ALLM and QFT, so it suits consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, or a gaming PC, as well as players, A/V receivers and televisions.
