Power cable for source components with solid PSS silver and PSC+ copper conductors
FireBird Constant-Current is the version of the FireBird cable tuned for audio and video source components, equipment that asks the mains for a constant, or "fixed", current instead of the heavy peaks of a power amplifier. It uses solid conductors that pair Perfect-Surface Silver with Perfect-Surface Copper+, together with ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech and 72 V DBS.
It is sold individually. The wall end carries a European Schuko plug, the equipment end an IEC connector to be chosen from three formats.
Conductors and geometry
Solid-core conductors have no strands interacting electrically with one another, which removes an important source of distortion. Surface quality is decisive, because the conductor guides the fields travelling through it as well as the magnetic fields surrounding it: Perfect-Surface metals have a particularly smooth, pure surface, to the benefit of clarity. The sizes of the PSS silver and PSC+ copper wires are selected with care, giving a result close to that of an all-silver cable. ZERO-Tech pairs low DC resistance with an absence of characteristic impedance.
Noise reduction
The ground conductor also works as an antenna: it collects radio-frequency noise that gets past the component's power supply and ends up in the most sensitive audio and video circuits. RF/ND-Tech reduces this distortion over a very wide band of frequencies, thanks to a phase-cancelling common-mode network and proprietary dielectric materials that add linear differential filtering. The 72 V DBS keeps the insulation biased, limits its noise and makes its filtering action more linear. Conductor direction is controlled, so that noise drains away from critical points; the correct orientation is shown by the arrows on the connectors.
Terminations and lengths
The equipment-end connector comes in three IEC formats: C13, the most common on electronics; C15, the notched variant for components with the matching inlet; C19, the larger format for components with a C20 inlet. The lengths offered are 1 m, 2 m and 3 m.
