Pegasus: ZERO-Tech interconnect with 72 V DBS and solid PSC+ copper conductors
AudioQuest Pegasus is an analogue interconnect that combines solid copper conductors, ZERO-Tech technology and 72 V DBS dielectric biasing. It is intended for links between source, preamplifier and power amplifier and is offered with RCA or XLR connectors.
Sold as a pair: the pack holds the two cables for the right and left channels.
Conductors and insulation
The conductors are single wires of Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+): with no strands there is no electrical or magnetic interplay between adjacent wires, and the surface finish of the copper keeps grain-boundary distortion in check. Insulation uses polypropylene air tubes (Polypropylene Air-Tube), a solution adopted where the design calls for a small diameter: air hardly absorbs anything, while polypropylene loses very little, so the insulation stores and releases very little energy as distortion.
ZERO-Tech, DBS and noise dissipation
ZERO-Tech removes the electrostatic field between the positive and negative conductors: the cable has no characteristic impedance and therefore cannot be mismatched to the circuits it is connected to. Radio-frequency noise dissipation becomes linear, constant octave after octave, and transients are not compressed. The 72 V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) biases the insulation, which would otherwise behave like a shunt filter: it lowers its noise and makes its behaviour linear. On the XLR version the DBS pack is doubled (Dual-72v), to keep the signal conductors fully isolated from each other. The Level 6 Noise-Dissipation system is completed by the resistive mesh of carbon and graphene and by the RF drain wires plated with 6% silver, which are Direction-Controlled too.
Terminations and lengths
RCA for unbalanced connections, XLR for balanced equipment. The plugs are very high purity Red Copper with silver applied straight onto it, and the grounded, copper-plated shells prevent RF noise from coupling capacitively into the conductors. Lengths: 0.6 m, 1 m, 1.5 m, 2 m, 3 m, 4 m, 5 m and 6 m.
