PowerQuest 303: a rack-mount mains filter with linear-filtered outlets
The PowerQuest 303 is a mains filter with surge protection for audio and video systems, housed in a compact chassis that can go into a rack. Filtering the supply lowers noise and distortion on the mains line before they reach the connected equipment. The version offered here is the European one, with Schuko sockets and plug.
Outlets and filtering
The outlets are split into two groups. The high-current ones are meant for power amplifiers, AV receivers, soundbars and subwoofers. The linear-filtered ones feed audio and video sources, computers, modems and routers. Linear noise dissipation keeps the reduction of disturbances constant, which favours a quieter background and a sound rich in detail.
Surge protection
Protection is non-sacrificial: it copes with repeated surges without its parts wearing out over the years, and so without losing effectiveness after each event. If mains voltage rises beyond the safe level, the extreme-voltage shutdown opens the main circuit relay in under 0.25 seconds; reset is automatic once the supply is back at safe values.
Detachable cable and mounting
The 2-metre PQ-415 detachable power cable is supplied. Its conductors are Semi-Solid Long-Grain Copper: the strands are compacted and hold the same place in the bundle, which lowers the distortion caused by interaction between wires, while long-grain copper limits the distortion produced by the grain boundaries of the metal. Direction-Controlled conductors lead induced noise away from the most sensitive circuits in the system. The flat wall plug helps in installations where space is tight, and the supplied 2U rack ears allow fitting into a rack cabinet.
