48 Gbps HDMI cable for 8K and 10K with 10% silver on conductors and drains, carbon and graphene
ThunderBird 48 is a 48 Gbps HDMI cable in which 10% silver covers both the conductors and the drains, combined with Level 5 Noise-Dissipation. It carries video as high as 10K Ultra HD at professional level, supports Dynamic HDR and provides the conductors and the bandwidth needed by the advanced audio functions of eARC.
The 48 Gbps are split across four balanced audio/video pairs of 12 Gbps apiece. Backward compatibility with current 4K equipment is complete, and a 4K system also gains from the materials and the construction of the cable.
Conductors and drains with 10% silver
The conductors are Long-Grain Copper (LGC) plated with 10% silver: across the AudioQuest HDMI range a progressively thicker silver layer serves to improve the way noise is dissipated. On ThunderBird 48 the same 10% plating is applied to the drains too, which therefore help to carry away more interference.
Noise reduction
All 19 conductors are Direction-Controlled: audio/video and eARC signals, ground-reference drains, control lines and power lines. Level 5 Noise-Dissipation then works on two fronts. Around the four FRL pairs and the eARC pair, the carbon layer enclosed by two metal layers is enriched with high-loss graphene; a second high-loss carbon layer, called global, wraps the whole set of conductors.
Connection direction, gaming and lengths
The arrows on the plugs show the orientation: they should face the television or the AV receiver. Gaming functions such as 4K at 120 frames, VRR, ALLM and QFT are supported, useful with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and gaming computers. ThunderBird 48 is offered in lengths of 0.6 m, 1 m, 1.5 m, 2 m and 3 m.
