The 702 S3 Signature retains five drivers while revising key parts of the design.
This Signature tower develops the 702 S3 construction without changing its three-way layout.
The pair of Bowers & Wilkins 702 S3 Signature speakers keeps the Carbon Dome in its Tweeter-on-Top housing, a 150 mm Continuum FST midrange and three 165 mm Aerofoil woofers from the 702 S3. Driver count is not the change: the midrange and bass motor systems, capacitors, terminals and tweeter mesh have been revised. Special finishes complete the edition alongside the engineering changes.
Key features
- Three ways: 25 mm Carbon Dome, 150 mm Continuum FST midrange and three 165 mm Aerofoil woofers
- Reworked midrange and bass motors, capacitors, terminals and a more open tweeter mesh
- Response 46 Hz-28 kHz (±3 dB), sensitivity 90 dB; 8-ohm nominal impedance (3.1-ohm minimum)
- Recommended amplifier 30-300 W; Flowport and Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top
- 1138 × 290 × 410 mm with tweeter and plinth; 35.26 kg per speaker
Compared with the regular 702 S3
The midrange remains decoupled and the woofers operate in a Flowport-vented cabinet. Improved capacitors serve the crossover and revised terminals handle the amplifier connection. A more open protective mesh sits ahead of the tweeter dome. These are changes to particular parts of the system, rather than a new driver configuration or an additional way.
Size and system planning
The cabinet measures 1010 × 192 × 354 mm, while the tweeter and plinth take overall height to 1138 mm. The plinth is 290 mm wide and 410 mm deep. Each speaker weighs 35.26 kg, against 33.46 kg for a regular 702 S3. Use the overall dimensions when planning placement near furniture or a walkway, with room for the rear connections.
The ±3 dB response remains 46 Hz-28 kHz and sensitivity 90 dB, as on the 702 S3. Recommended amplification is 30-300 W into 8 ohms, with a 3.1-ohm impedance minimum. Driver diameters remain those of the 702 S3, while midrange and bass motors, capacitors, terminals and tweeter mesh have been revised. The HTM71 S3 Signature applies related changes to a centre channel. Its full 410 mm plinth depth is unchanged from the regular tower, so an existing proposed location may accommodate either version. The extra 1.80 kg per speaker, however, matters when moving and positioning the pair.
