Large cone, adjustable high frequencies
CCM683 puts a 200 mm bass/midrange driver in a ceiling frame.
The Bowers & Wilkins CCM683 pair is designed for in-ceiling fitting. Each speaker needs a 250 mm circular cut-out and 133 mm of clear depth; the outer frame is 290 mm across and projects by 4 mm. Compare opening and void dimensions carefully where joists, ducts or downlights limit the available position.
Key features
- Cut-out 250 mm; frame 290 mm; depth 133 mm.
- Drive units: 200 mm Aramid Fibre bass/midrange and 25 mm Nautilus aluminium tweeter.
- Impedance: 8 ohm, 4.5 ohm minimum; power: 25–130 W recommended.
- pivoting tweeter; three-position EQ; die-cast chassis
Aiming after fitting
A 200 mm Aramid Fibre bass/midrange cone is paired with a 25 mm Nautilus aluminium dome. Its tweeter housing pivots to alter treble direction, and three-position EQ adjusts off-axis response. The die-cast chassis stiffens the assembly. With the same opening size, CCM684 instead uses a glass-fibre cone and soft dome; CCM683 has the Aramid Fibre and aluminium combination.
Electrical checks
Recommended amplifier power is 25 to 130 W. Sensitivity of 88 dB and 8-ohm nominal impedance, with a 4.5-ohm minimum, guide matching; the -6 dB range is 35 Hz to 50 kHz. A C8 pre-mount kit and 6C back box are specified. Once the openings are marked, consider the seating positions: the pivoting tweeter and EQ can be adjusted for that geometry.
Comparison with CCM682 reveals another concrete difference: CCM683 has 88 dB sensitivity, while CCM682 reaches 89 dB and has a 150 W upper recommended power figure. Their outside dimensions remain the same. If the project already specifies 250 mm openings, these choices concern system matching rather than panel fabrication. Aiming and EQ still allow the installed treble to be tuned.
