Compact stereo power amplifier with 70 W per channel
The Cambridge Audio MXW70 is a half-width stereo power amplifier: from a case just 215 mm wide it delivers 70 W per channel into 8 ohms and 125 W per channel into 4 ohms, enough to drive even demanding speakers without the bulk of a traditional power amplifier. Designed in London, it fits into an existing system or becomes the basis of a very small modern one.
Those who need more power can bridge it: in mono the MXW70 reaches 250 W into 8 ohms, and two units form a pair of monoblocks.
Hypex NCORE Class D amplification
The power stage is a Hypex NCORE Class D module, an efficient design that combines dynamics, control and low heat dissipation. The stated figures are THD+N below 0.015% (at 5 W into 8 ohms), a signal-to-noise ratio above 92 dB from the XLR input and above 89 dB from the RCA input, crosstalk below -82 dB at 1 kHz and a damping factor above 180.
Maximum power consumption is 300 W, dropping below 0.5 W in standby.
RCA and XLR inputs, 12 V trigger
On the rear panel there is a stereo RCA input, a balanced XLR input and one pair of speaker outputs. The 12 V trigger input switches the amplifier on and off together with the rest of the system, and the trigger pass-through sends the same command on to another component.
Gain is 22.2 dB from the XLR input and 28.8 dB from the RCA input; input impedance is 35 kohms (XLR) and 22 kohms (RCA).
A complete half-width system
The MXW70 is designed to partner the MXN10 network streamer, with which it forms a complete, compact streaming system; adding the DacMagic 200M converter also brings a high-resolution headphone output. The casework is all metal, with a minimalist design and Cambridge Audio's signature Lunar Grey finish.
It measures 57 x 215 x 215 mm (height, width, depth) and weighs 1.65 kg. The box contains the power cords, the safety guide, the welcome letter and the registration card.
