Speaker cable with PSC and LGC copper conductors in a double spiral pair
AudioQuest Rocket 22 is a loudspeaker cable whose Semi-Solid Concentric conductors combine two grades of copper: LGC (Long-Grain Copper) together with PSC (Perfect-Surface Copper). The conductors are arranged as two spiralled pairs, following the Double Spiral-Pair geometry. It is offered with Full-Range or Single Bi-Wire termination and in four lengths. Sold as a pair, one cable for the right channel and one for the left.
The addition of PSC, a purer metal than LGC, is what sets this model apart within the Rocket series.
Semi-Solid Concentric PSC and LGC conductors
In traditional stranded cable the strands keep moving around inside the bundle, and the resulting electrical and magnetic interaction creates distortion. With the Semi-Solid Concentric construction the strands hold a fixed arrangement over the full length, so this interaction, one of the main causes of dynamic distortion, drops noticeably. The mix of high-purity LGC and the even purer PSC also limits distortion linked to grain boundaries in the metal, giving cleaner behaviour than ordinary OFHC copper.
Double Spiral-Pair geometry and insulation
Within each half of the cable the two conductors are wound around each other. Against conductors laid side by side, inductance is lower, which helps clarity and extension from the bass up to the treble. The insulation is PVC and every conductor is Direction-Controlled, that is, oriented according to the directionality of radio-frequency noise.
Terminations and lengths
The Full-Range version has two connectors at each end and suits loudspeakers with a single pair of binding posts. The Single Bi-Wire version leaves the amplifier with two connectors and reaches the loudspeaker with four, feeding the bass and treble posts separately on speakers designed for bi-wiring. Available lengths: 2 m, 2.5 m, 3 m and 4 m.
