JBL S4700

JBL S4700: three-way floorstanding speakers with a 380 mm woofer

The S4700 is a three-way floorstander from the Summit series that adopts the same professional-level technology found in the K2 S9900. In the range it sits one step above the S3900: in place of two 250 mm woofers it carries one 380 mm woofer, in a wider and heavier cabinet, and gains in sensitivity and in power handling. Sold as a pair.

The woofer has a cast frame and a pulp cone. Midrange and treble are reproduced by a 45 mm compression driver with a titanium diaphragm, coupled with a patented Bi-Radial horn; a second compression driver, also with a titanium diaphragm, takes care of the ultra-high frequencies. The crossover is an advanced design, and on the rear panel the inputs for the bass section and for the treble section are separate.

Technical data

The measurements, in the order height x width x depth, are 1068 x 500 x 371 mm and the net weight is 54.5 kg: both figures apply to a single speaker. The gold-plated binding posts, thanks to the distinct inputs for the two sections, allow a bi-wiring connection.

Finishes

The cabinet is veneered in real cherry wood, with workmanship comparable to that of furniture.
