An ultra-thin two-way speaker made to hang on the wall beside a flat television or stand on a shelf, with a Folded Motion tweeter, two 102 mm woofers and two passive radiators. It can serve as a left, centre or right channel.
SLM: drivers and cabinet
The SLM answers a specific problem: the thinnest televisions have small built-in drivers with very little air volume to work with, often tucked away at the back of the screen, and sound quality suffers. This passive speaker sits next to the television in a cabinet roughly 37 mm thick, which stays under 5 cm from the wall once the magnetic grille and the bracket are counted. Inside are two long-throw 102 mm woofers with paper diaphragms and two passive radiators of the same diameter, taking the response down to 110 Hz.
Treble is handled by a 26 × 36 mm Folded Motion tweeter with a 133 × 44 mm pleated diaphragm, crossing over to the woofers at 2,600 Hz. Its dispersion is 80° both side to side and up and down, which is why the SLM sounds the same upright or lying flat and suits an LCR front stage built from three identical speakers. The grille badge attaches magnetically, so it can be moved and turned to suit whichever way the speaker is fitted. The drivers are fixed to a solid baffle of brushed, anodised aluminium that stays out of sight behind the grille.
Wall fixing relies on the keyhole slots in the rear panel, which hook onto the bracket supplied in the box. The alternative is a curved base, also provided, that holds the speaker upright on a shelf or an AV unit. With 94 dB sensitivity and a 4 ohm impedance it connects to amplifiers and AV receivers delivering 20 to 140 watts per channel, and the crossover includes thermal and current protection.
