Niagara 3000: low-impedance power conditioner for stereo systems and rack installations
The Niagara 3000 is the Niagara model for anyone who wants the engineering of the larger 5000 and 7000 in a more compact chassis. It does more than filter the mains: it dissipates the noise travelling on the power line and on the ground, and it keeps a reserve of current ready for amplifiers when demand peaks.
It weighs about 11.3 kg and its proportions suit rack mounting: the 2-unit rack ears come in the box. The main power cable is not supplied and has to be chosen separately.
Noise dissipation
The patented Ground Noise-Dissipation system lowers the interference that arrives through the earth conductor while leaving electrical safety intact and without producing low-level ground loops. The very wide-band Level-X linear filtering deals with line noise and with radio-frequency pickup, while the RF filter capacitors, formed by AudioQuest, improve linearity and keep distortion down.
Outlets for amplifiers and for sources
The outputs fall into two groups. The high-current ones rely on Transient Power Correction, which supplies for short moments (up to 25 ms) the current that transients call for: they are meant for power amplifiers, active loudspeakers and powered subwoofers. The others, filtered with Level-X technology, serve sources, DACs, streamers and preamplifiers, where a quieter background lets more detail come through.
Main features
- Patented ground-noise dissipation for equipment whose power cable has an earth connection
- Transient Power Correction current reserve on the high-current outlets
- Non-sacrificial surge protection: it withstands repeated spikes with no parts to replace
- Automatic shutdown when the mains voltage is too high, with reset once the value is back to normal
- 2-unit rack ears supplied; power cable to be purchased separately
