Ortofon 2M 78

Mono moving magnet cartridge with a spherical stylus.

2M 78: the design

The 2M is Ortofon's best-known moving magnet series: the same body across the range, a high output that suits any MM phono input and a user-replaceable stylus. Moving up the range changes the diamond, and with it the detail the cartridge can read from the groove.

It carries a spherical stylus. Output is 4 mV, it tracks at 1.8 g and wants a load of 47 kohms.

It is made for 78 rpm records, whose groove is wider than a microgroove.

It can be chosen on its own or already fitted to the black SH-4 headshell, ready to plug onto the tonearm.
