Debut Aluminium Sub-Platter Upgrade: how it is made

This is a mechanical upgrade aimed at the whole Debut family. The standard sub-platter gives way to a diamond-cut aluminium part with a stainless steel spindle. Machining the metal permits much stricter tolerances than an ordinary sub-platter offers, and that precision is what keeps the rotational speed closer to its nominal value.

The sub-platter weighs 700 g, so it brings added mass to the platter and drive assembly. Greater mass means noise and unwanted resonances are damped better and the speed stays more constant over short intervals, which measurements call wow and flutter.
