A manual belt-drive turntable with a free-standing synchronous motor and a 10 inch S-shaped arm in carbon fibre, resin and aluminium. This version has the Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge fitted as standard.
RPM 3 Carbon 2M Silver: the design
The RPM 3 Carbon stretches the arm to 10 inches and gives the motor a housing of its own, set down beside the deck with no contact with the chassis. The chassis is a low-resonance design that gathers its mass at a central point, which Pro-Ject says improves how it deals with vibration.
The 300 mm MDF platter carries a vinyl mat and spins on an inverted bearing: a stainless steel axle and a ceramic ball, to keep rumble down. The 15 V AC motor takes its voltage from a precision generator running off a DC supply, which benefits consistency of rotation. The two speeds, 33 and 45 rpm, are selected by hand.
The arm tube combines carbon fibre, resin and aluminium and is consolidated in three steps using heat and 100 bar of pressure: high stiffness, good internal damping and little resonance, enough for the arm to carry an MC cartridge too. Magnetic anti-skating and a TPE-damped counterweight round things off. The 2M Silver is already mounted; also supplied are the Connect it E phono lead, a 45 rpm adapter, a hex key and a tracking force gauge. The lid is bought separately.
