Compact USB-C DAC for computers, headphones and active speakers
The iFi Audio Uno is iFi's smallest desktop DAC: it fits in the palm of a hand (88 x 81 x 26 mm, 92 g) and upgrades the sound of a Windows PC or a Mac, for headphones and active speakers. It connects to the USB port with the supplied USB-A to USB-C cable and needs no power supply, because it receives both data and power from the computer.
It is a simple starting point for anyone who wants better sound from music, films, games, podcasts and videos without getting into the technical side. The curved case is made of mineral-filled polymer, tough and light.
Three modes: music, movie and game
The Uno offers three sound settings, one for each use. Music mode focuses on detail and engagement, Movie makes the dialogue of streamed films and series clearer, Game brings out low-level effects such as an opponent's footsteps.
The ESS DAC chip also provides digital filters selectable from the front panel, adjustable analogue gain and Dynamic Range Enhancement, which extends dynamic range by 6 dB or more. Volume control is analogue: turning it down does not remove data from the signal, as happens with digital controls.
Hi-res formats: PCM 384 kHz, DSD256 and MQA
The Uno plays PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz, native DSD up to DSD256 and DXD at 384 kHz, and supports MQA for streaming masters in studio quality. The stated frequency response runs from 10 Hz to 80 kHz (-0.5 dB).
Dynamic range is at least 115 dB on the line section and at least 110 dB on the headphone section, with a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 119 dB(A). Power consumption stays between about 0.8 W with no signal and about 1.5 W at maximum.
S-Balanced headphone output and RCA outputs
On the front, the 3.5 mm headphone output uses iFi's S-Balanced configuration, which reduces noise and crosstalk, and delivers at least 211 mW into 32 Ω and 39 mW into 300 Ω.
On the back, next to the USB-C input, the RCA line outputs (2 V maximum) connect the Uno to a pair of active speakers or an amplifier. The box contains the USB-A to USB-C cable and the quick start guide.
