JBL 200P: powered subwoofer with a 250 mm woofer and 300 W dynamic
The 200P is the 250 mm powered subwoofer of the Stage 2 series, developed by JBL at its acoustic engineering centre in Northridge, California, to partner the loudspeakers of the same series in stereo or multichannel home theatre systems. Compared with the 220P it has a smaller woofer (250 mm rather than 300 mm), a less powerful amplifier and a more compact cabinet. It is sold as a single unit.
The woofer faces forward and has a ribbed, high-excursion Polycellulose cone: pure pulp to which JBL adds a proprietary blend of further materials to raise stiffness. The cabinet is a bass-reflex type with two tuned ports at the back; the flared shape of the ports slows the air as it leaves and, JBL states, removes chuffing and colouration. The built-in Class D amplifier delivers 150 W RMS and 300 W dynamic. The grille is held by magnets, and spikes adjustable from above screw into the feet, useful on rugs and carpet.
