Primare CD15 Prisma: a compact CD player with D/A converter and Prisma network functions
CD15 Prisma is a complete digital source: it plays compact discs, stored music and streamed music, and joins the network by cable or wirelessly thanks to Prisma technology. Compared with the DD15 transport, which has digital outputs only, the CD15 Prisma adds the D/A converter, the analog output and the network player.
The drive is a slot-loading Philips unit dedicated to CDs. Its signal, together with the one coming from the Prisma section, goes to a conversion stage built around the AKM AK4490 chip and then to an analog output stage. The output can work at a fixed level, in which case the player acts as a source for a hi-fi system, or at a variable level: two powered speakers are then all it takes to form a compact system.
