VC-S3: the design
The principle is a wet wash followed by suction, the only way to reach the dirt a dry brush leaves behind in the groove. On the VC-S3 the record spins at 30 revolutions per minute; the fluid is spread with the supplied brush, then the metal arm is lowered and its self-adhesive strip picks up liquid and residue. One or two rotations are enough for vinyl that is clean, dry and free of static charge.
Compared with its compact sibling, capacity and motor are the main differences. The internal tank holds 2.5 litres, shows how full it is and is designed so that used fluid cannot spill; since Wash it 2 evaporates inside it, Pro-Ject says emptying is hardly ever required, even after thousands of records. The suction motor is new, mounted on aluminium pads and protected by a cataphoretic coating.
The magnetic clamp rests on the record with nothing to screw down and acts as a gasket around the label, which stays dry. The redesigned cabinet uses 5 mm aluminium composite panels. With the machine come 100 ml of Wash it 2, an alcohol-free cleaner that is ready mixed and needs no dilution. The VC-S3 is built in Europe and handles 12-inch records; a separate kit is offered for 7-inch singles.
