The IC6 is a two-way in-ceiling loudspeaker, sold as a pair, with a 16.5 cm woofer and a titanium tweeter: a discreet way of bringing music into any room of the house.
IC6: what is inside
Once installed, the IC6 takes up a circle 221 mm across on the ceiling: it is the middle size in the Installer range, the one that balances a small footprint with a response reaching from 55 Hz to 20 kHz. The 16.5 cm bass/midrange unit hands over to the 19 mm tweeter at 3,000 Hz. Sensitivity is 89 dB and the impedance suits 8 ohm amplifiers, for which the maker quotes power of up to 80 W.
For the woofer MartinLogan uses a polypropylene cone with a mineral filler and a computer-optimised ferrite magnet, giving a clean midrange and extended bass; the tweeter has a titanium dome cooled and damped with ferrofluid, so that treble is spread over a broad listening zone. Between the two sits a Vojtko crossover put together by hand from selected parts: air-core inductors and polyester capacitors.
The hole to cut is 196 mm in diameter and is marked out with the template supplied. The locking clamps, housed in the frame, move into position as you drive the screws and fix the speaker to the ceiling; if you take it down, they slip back into their seats. You need 81 mm above the ceiling, and it stands 8 mm proud below. The micro-perforated grille can be painted and attaches magnetically. The square grille and the pre-installation bracket are accessories bought separately.
