The IC8 is a two-way in-ceiling loudspeaker, sold as a pair, with a 20.3 cm woofer and a 25 mm titanium tweeter: for anyone who also wants solid bass from a speaker hidden in the ceiling.
IC8: woofer, tweeter and fitting
The IC8 is the ceiling model with the largest woofer in the Installer range: a 20.3 cm cone that takes the response down to 45 Hz and gives the low end weight and dynamics. Above 2,500 Hz a tweeter with a 25 mm dome takes over, wider than the one on the smaller models, and the band closes at 20 kHz. At 90 dB it is also the most sensitive of the family; the load suits 8 ohms and quoted power reaches 90 W. Installed, it measures 264 mm across.
As on the other Installer models, the woofer has a polypropylene diaphragm with a mineral filler and a ferrite magnet developed with computer modelling, while the titanium tweeter is damped and cooled by ferrofluid so it stays even over a large listening area. The filter adopts the Vojtko layout and is made by hand with air-core inductors and polyester capacitors. Cable connects to sprung terminals, which also take banana plugs and pins.
Fitting calls for a round hole of 238 mm and 93 mm of clear depth; when the job is done the speaker stands 8 mm proud of the ceiling. The box includes an actual-size template carrying the essential instructions. The locking clamps leave their seats as the screws are driven and anchor the frame firmly. The grille is micro-perforated, frameless, paintable and held magnetically; the square version and the pre-installation bracket are available separately.
