The IW6 is a two-way in-wall loudspeaker, sold as a pair, that teams a 16.5 cm woofer with a titanium tweeter. It is meant for music or home cinema channels where no cabinet should be on show.
IW6: how it is built
The IW6 is the rectangular wall model in MartinLogan's Installer range. A 16.5 cm bass/midrange unit, whose polypropylene cone carries a mineral filler, works with a 19 mm tweeter, and the two hand over at 2,500 Hz. Quoted response runs from 55 Hz to 20 kHz, sensitivity is 89 dB and the load suits 8 ohm amplifiers: figures that fit stereo listening in a living room as well as the front or surround channels of a multichannel system.
The tweeter is damped and cooled with ferrofluid, which keeps the treble even over a broad listening area; the woofer relies on a computer-optimised ferrite magnet and a motor sized for high power. The crossover is assembled by hand from air-core inductors and polyester capacitors, following the maker's own Vojtko topology. Sprung terminals take banana plugs, pins or bare cable as thick as 12 AWG.
To fit it, mark the 257 x 180 mm opening with the full-size template packed in the box, then tighten the locking clamps: they swing out of their housings and grip the frame against the wall. You need 81 mm of depth behind the surface, while the speaker stands 8 mm proud at the front. The micro-perforated grille has no frame, can be painted and is held by hidden magnets. A pre-installation bracket for new builds can be bought separately.
