Dynamo Foundation 12 is the largest powered subwoofer in the Dynamo Foundation series: a 30.5 cm woofer firing at the floor, a closed box and 350 W of Class D power, suited to large rooms or to anyone wanting higher output.
Dynamo Foundation 12: the design in detail
Compared with the Foundation 10, the woofer, the power and the extension all grow: the stiff URP polypropylene cone goes up to 30.5 cm and stated response drops to 24 Hz, reaching 200 Hz at the top within ±3 dB. The long-throw driver, with its pressed-steel basket, sits in the base of the cabinet, which is why there is no grille. Proportions remain domestic: 40.6 cm tall on a 35.8 cm square base, weighing 13.2 kg.
The Magnitude MT-700 is a Class D amplifier giving 350 W continuous and 700 W peak, sized to keep a cone of this diameter in check. Alongside it is a 200 MHz DSP processor computing at 56 bits: its job is to draw more output and fidelity from the system without the processing becoming audible. The rear panel sets level, the low-pass filter, which can be bypassed when the AV receiver handles the crossover, and phase at 0° or 180°; power-on may be permanent or automatic.
Connection is by RCA cables: a left and right set for use with a stereo amplifier, or the right input alone, which counts as LFE, for home cinema. Anyone wanting no cable between electronics and subwoofer can add the optional WSK-1 wireless kit. The sealed MDF structure has a stiffened driver panel and rests on non-slip feet. It was conceived to complete Motion Foundation systems and, like the maker's other subwoofers, works with loudspeakers of any brand.
