Meze's summit headphone needs an amplifier to match
ARTA is a 225-ohm open-back isodynamic headphone made for reference desktop systems, not for casual phone use.
ARTA sits at the top of the Meze Audio range and changes the rules for the system around it. Its Rinaro Parus ARTA MZ5 HΩ diaphragm presents a 225-ohm load, while the brand's other isodynamic models sit between 55 and 61 ohms. That choice targets linearity and stability, but needs suitable voltage and power: the amplifier, not merely the plug, must be checked before purchase.

The amplifier comes first
The 225-ohm rating does not simply mean lower volume. ARTA needs an amplifier with substantial voltage swing: Meze specifies at least +/-12 V peak and recommends +/-15-18 V, together with 500 mW or more into the nominal load. A generic headphone output may produce sound, but it is not the right basis for controlling dynamics and transients. The intended owner already has a serious desktop amplifier or plans to choose one with the headphone.
Reference-system listening
The open construction and large planar driver aim for a broad stage and a presentation reminiscent of properly set-up loudspeakers. ARTA therefore belongs in a quiet listening position with a source and amplifier of comparable ambition, not on trains, in shared offices or for roaming use. The supplied 6.3 mm and balanced XLR cables make its destination clear: a domestic system in which the headphone is the main component.
MZ5 HΩ and isomagnetic coupling
Rinaro Isodynamics developed the Parus ARTA MZ5 HΩ diaphragm around this high-impedance design. The hybrid magnet array focuses its action on membrane areas assigned to different frequencies, while the pads couple magnetically to the ear cup. Angled acoustic blades in the rear grille manage airflow without enclosing the driver. These are parts of one acoustic system, not decoration applied to the frame.
Two pads, two tunings
The Duo Angled pair combines leather and Alcantara for a richer presentation; the slim all-Alcantara pad is intended to sound smoother and more neutral. Swapping them is not only about comfort: it changes ear distance and therefore the perceived balance of body, presence and openness. Magnetic attachment makes it easy to choose the arrangement that suits the recording, taste and length of the session.
An object made to be maintained
Fibreglass-reinforced polymer, replaceable parts and Romanian assembly define a purchase intended to last. At this price, repairability has practical value: pads, cables and components can be renewed without discarding the complete headphone. The hard case with leather handle protects ARTA between sessions, although its natural place remains beside a DAC and headphone amplifier of equal calibre.
