NRG-Y2: C7 power cable with ZERO-Tech and silver-plated drains
AudioQuest NRG-Y2 is a mains cable with a two-pole C7 connector for compact electronics: streamers, DACs, game consoles, powered desktop speakers. To long-grain copper and a semi-solid geometry it adds two solutions aimed at dynamics and noise: ZERO-Tech and silver-plated drain conductors.
It is therefore the choice for anyone who wants, even on a small device, a cable that does not hold back current peaks and that carries away the radio-frequency noise picked up along the way.
Conductors and geometry
The conductors are Long-Grain Copper (LGC), a copper that tames the distortion generated at the borders between crystal grains, found in every metal. The Semi-Solid Concentric layout keeps the strands tight and still in the same place for the full length, sharply cutting the distortion that comes from strands interacting.
ZERO-Tech deals with characteristic impedance. Many mains cables stop at a low DC resistance to cope with high currents; here low resistance is joined by the absence of characteristic impedance, so the transients the music calls for reach the device without being compressed.
Noise reduction
The shields of the live and neutral conductors are tied to silver-plated, direction-controlled drain wires that take RF noise away efficiently. All conductors are Direction-Controlled: the direction of the grain structure is chosen by ear, batch after batch, so that induced noise is dissipated and discharged away from sensitive circuits.
Connector and lengths
The cable ends in a two-pole C7 connector on the device side and in a European plug on the mains side. NRG-Y2 comes in lengths of 1 m, 2 m and 3 m, enough to reach the wall socket or a power distributor placed close to the system.
