NRG-Y3: three-pole power cable with ZERO-Tech
AudioQuest NRG-Y3 is a three-pole mains cable for streamers, DACs, game consoles, powered desktop speakers and other electronics with an earthed mains inlet. To long-grain copper conductors it adds ZERO-Tech and silver-plated drain wires that send noise towards the earth contact.
The intended result is twofold: current on hand without compression when the music asks for it, and less radio-frequency noise injected into the device.
Conductors and geometry
The conductors are Long-Grain Copper (LGC), a copper that limits the distortion linked to the borders between the crystal grains of every metal. With the Semi-Solid Concentric geometry the strands stay tight and never swap places in the bundle: the distortion from strands interacting falls markedly.
ZERO-Tech starts from an observation: for a mains cable, low DC resistance, useful for high currents, is not all that matters; characteristic impedance counts as well. NRG-Y3 pairs low resistance with zero characteristic impedance, so the transients triggered by the audio signal are served without bottlenecks.
Noise reduction
The shields of the live and neutral conductors are drained by silver-plated, direction-controlled wires that channel RF noise to earth through the third contact of the plug. All conductors are Direction-Controlled: the direction is selected by ear, batch after batch, and belongs to Noise-Dissipation technology, which dissipates and discharges induced noise correctly.
Plug and lengths
On the mains side NRG-Y3 carries a European Schuko plug. The cable comes in three lengths, 1 m, 2 m and 3 m, to cover the distance between the device and the wall socket or the system's power distributor.
