Mono moving coil cartridge with a spherical stylus.

SPU Mono G MKII: the design

The SPU is Ortofon's historic moving coil, built into its own headshell: it weighs about 30 grams and tracks at high forces, so it needs a tonearm of suitable mass with a standard mount.

It carries a spherical stylus. Output is 3 mV, it tracks at 3.5 g and wants a load of 47 kohms.

It is a mono cartridge, for playing mono records without the noise a stereo design picks up from vertical movement.
