The CI Elite E80-R v2 is the largest round ceiling speaker in the Elite range: a two-way coaxial with a 203 mm AL-MAG woofer and a 25 mm AL-MAC tweeter, for larger rooms or for those who want more body in the bass.
CI Elite E80-R v2: drivers and materials
The E80-R takes the woofer of its sibling, the E65-R, up to 203 mm and gets from it a wider on-axis response, 60 Hz to 22 kHz, bass extension of 37 Hz and 93 dB of in-room sensitivity. Suitable amplifiers range between 15 and 160 W, with a 100 W maximum. It occupies a 234 mm cut-out and asks for 98 mm of depth. It belongs to the CI Elite range, built in Canada, which adds higher-grade materials to what the CI Pro offers.
The woofer cone is AL-MAG: aluminium and magnesium give great stiffness with little mass and effective internal damping, which benefits precision at middle frequencies. It is driven by a 38 mm voice coil, larger than usual and heat resistant, which sustains high levels with less power compression; the ART surround, patented and produced by Paradigm, is over-moulded onto the cone. For the treble there is the AL-MAC tweeter, an alloy with ceramic, protected by the PPA lens that aligns phase; the third-order crossover is set at 2.0 kHz.
The baffle is high-rigidity CARBON-X and the die-cast aluminium basket, with heat sink, is joined to it through the Shock-Mount system, which damps resonances between frame and acoustic section. RED technology reduces diffraction at the edges. At the rear the polycarbonate shield keeps debris out and, flat as it is, lets the speaker be set down during fitting. Frameless micro-perforated grille, magnetic and paintable; nickel-plated spring terminals for thick cable or banana plugs.
