The Essentials Sub 12 is a sealed active subwoofer with a front-firing 305 mm driver and a Class-D amplifier rated at 350 W continuous: the larger Essentials model, for those after deeper bass in medium-sized rooms with music, films and games.
Essentials Sub 12: more cone, more power
Within the Essentials series the Sub 12 is the senior model: the same understated approach as its smaller sibling, but with a 305 mm driver and a sturdier amplifier. The long-throw diaphragm is carbon-filled polypropylene, mounted on a pressed-steel basket and facing the listener. The cabinet is a sealed MDF box with the front reinforced around the driver, cleanly styled so that it goes unnoticed in a domestic setting.
The Class-D power section supplies 350 W continuous and 700 W peak. A high-resolution 56-bit DSP looks after its response and lowers distortion, backed by the soft-clipping circuit and automatic switch-on. The quoted figures are an on-axis response of 19 to 200 Hz within ±3 dB and extension that touches 17 Hz (DIN), with a maximum draw of 350 W.
Setting up is manual and quick: the rear panel adjusts the low-pass filter frequency, between 40 and 120 Hz or bypassed, and phase between 0° and 180°. The two RCA inputs take a stereo signal or the LFE output of an AV receiver. No room correction is built in; for a connection without a signal cable there is the Paradigm Subwoofer Wireless Kit, to be bought separately.
