An ultra-slim two-way speaker with twin passive radiators, sold singly, for wall fixing or for standing on the support provided: at 63.5 cm long it is the most compact of the Millenia LP family and suits smaller TVs.
Millenia LP 2: technology and installation
The Millenia LP 2 is a flat speaker meant to sit beside a screen: bracket included, it stands 4.4 cm proud of the wall, and the cabinet is moulded polymer. It serves as the left and right speaker, and a third unit can be added as a centre to have three identical fronts. Anyone who prefers not to drill the wall can stand it on furniture with the supports in the box. At 63.5 cm it has the smallest footprint in the range, the one suggested for smaller flat screens.
Five diaphragms are at work inside. The tweeter is a 25 mm S-PAL dome in anodised pure aluminium, damped and cooled with ferrofluid, mounted on a stiff ABS chassis with mineral loading and shielded by a perforated aluminium mesh that incorporates a phase ring. The two 114 mm midrange/bass units have a one-piece anodised cone, a 37 mm aluminium voice coil for high temperatures, a Nomex spider, a nitrile rubber surround, a neodymium magnet and a finned steel basket that helps to shed heat from the motor.
In place of a reflex port, for which so slim a cabinet has no room, there are two 114 mm passive radiators using that same anodised cone, precisely tuned. The quoted result is bass extension to 75 Hz (DIN) and an on-axis response of 120 Hz to 21 kHz within ±3 dB. In-room sensitivity of 92 dB makes the speaker easy to drive: amplifiers of 15 to 130 W into an 8 ohm compatible load are enough. The crossover is second order and operates at 2.6 kHz.
