A two-channel Class D amplifier with network streaming, DSP and ARC room correction: it drives loads of 4 or 8 ohms and also 70 V lines, for Garden Oasis landscape systems, custom subwoofers and small commercial premises.
SVX-1202: power, streaming and control
The SVX-1202 is the amplifier Paradigm places at the centre of its Garden Oasis outdoor systems, and it is also offered for high-power custom subwoofers such as those of the DCS-208 series. With both channels working it delivers 600 W per channel into 8 ohms, 1200 W per channel into 4 ohms and 600 W per channel on 70 V lines. The Class D output stages are backed by a load-supervision circuit that Paradigm calls Advanced Load Monitoring. It cannot be bridged.
The inputs are a coaxial digital, which makes use of the internal 24-bit/192 kHz converter, an analogue RCA pair and a differential analogue input on a terminal block. Over the network the unit receives music through Spotify Connect, Google Cast and Apple AirPlay, with Bluetooth alongside; two Wi-Fi antennas come in the box. Speakers connect to Phoenix-type terminal blocks that take cable up to 12 AWG, a gauge suited to the long runs typical of gardens.
The internal DSP holds ready-made settings for the most widely used Paradigm outdoor speakers and passive subwoofers. Added to these is Anthem Room Correction: with the supplied microphone and the ARC Genesis software, for Mac and Windows, the space is measured and the response corrected, with the option of adjusting the target curve in the deep bass and the treble. According to Paradigm it is the first unit compatible with 70 V lines to offer this correction.
Configuration is carried out from a web interface that adapts to whatever device is in use. IP control makes the SVX-1202 suitable for integration with the main home-automation systems. Power-on can be commanded over IP, by a 5 to 24 V trigger or by the presence of an audio signal. Two fans take care of cooling. The chassis mounts in a rack with the brackets provided, or stands on a shelf using the four feet included.
