Perlisten S5m: the three-way Signature monitor
Three-way standmount monitor with Beryllium and Textreme TPCD DPC Array, dual 180 mm woofers and THX Dominus and Ultra certification.
S5m transfers S7t technology into a substantial monitor. Its 600 mm cabinet, two 180 mm woofers and 19 kg weight make it a genuine standmount for serious stereo and Signature cinema systems rather than a small bookshelf speaker.
Key features
- Three-way system with bass reflex or acoustic suspension operation
- DPC Array with 28 mm Beryllium tweeter and two 28 mm Textreme TPCD midrange domes
- Two 180 mm Textreme TPCD woofers
- 89.6 dB sensitivity and 4-ohm nominal, 3.0-ohm minimum impedance
- Recommended amplification from 50 to 300 W RMS
- THX Dominus and THX Ultra certifications
A true monitor within the S-Series
The format separates S5m from S5t: the main transducers are the same, but the cabinet requires a suitable stand. The reduced height gives greater placement freedom and delivers Signature performance without introducing a floorstanding cabinet more than a metre tall into the room.
Signature materials, not Reference
Construction remains fully S-Series: a 28 mm Beryllium tweeter, two 28 mm Textreme TPCD midrange domes and two 180 mm woofers in the same composite. The equivalent R-Series monitor instead uses three 26 mm silk domes and 165 mm HPF woofers, a substantial distinction in materials and range positioning.
DPC Array in a monitor format
The DPC Array controls dispersion through the region most important to stereo imaging and vocal intelligibility. S5m retains the same Signature array as the larger models, maintaining consistency with S-Series towers, centres and surrounds. In multichannel systems this reduces tonal changes as sounds move between channels.
Adjustable bass without changing loudspeaker
S5m can operate as bass reflex or acoustic suspension by plugging the port. Vented, the -10 dB response reaches 35 Hz and typical in-room extension 29 Hz; sealed, the figures become 41 and 32 Hz. This allows extension or control to be prioritised and can simplify subwoofer integration.
Monitor proportions with main-speaker dynamics
With 89.6 dB sensitivity and a 4-ohm nominal impedance, S5m needs stable amplification; Perlisten recommends 50-300 W RMS. Stated peak capability reaches 117 dB from 100 Hz to 20 kHz with distortion below 2%, giving enough headroom to use it as a main loudspeaker in demanding rooms.
THX Dominus and THX Ultra
THX Dominus and THX Ultra certifications support its use in high-performance cinema systems. The cabinet measures 240 x 600 x 400 mm as W x H x D without its stand and weighs 19 kg. Standard finishes are Piano Black and Gloss White; stand height and listening geometry deserve careful attention to exploit the DPC Array.
