The Debut EVO 2 is a belt-drive turntable with a one-piece 8.6-inch carbon arm and the Pick it MM EVO cartridge, developed with Ortofon. It offers two electronically switched speeds and gold-plated RCA outputs, and comes in several finishes.
Debut EVO 2: platter, motor and arm
On the Debut EVO 2 the platter is a 300 mm, 1.7 kg aluminium die-casting, finished and balanced in a separate operation. Inside it carries a ring of TPE, a thermoplastic elastomer that damps resonance. Being non-magnetic, it does not interfere with MC cartridges. At the centre there is a recess for the record label, intended for use with the Record Puck E, which is sold separately.
The motor sits in a suspension that holds back its vibration, and the belt isolates it further from the sub-platter. Current passes through a generator that builds a fresh, clean sine wave for the motor, which benefits speed stability. Switching between 33 and 45 rpm is done with a rocker located underneath the plinth. The platter bearing is a stainless-steel spindle turning in a bronze bush.
The 8.6-inch arm is a single piece of carbon fibre, stiff and light (7 g effective mass). It pivots in a bearing block CNC-milled from aluminium, and the counterweight has a TPE damping ring. The anti-skating adapts its action as the force changes between outer and inner grooves. The cartridge is the Pick it MM EVO, developed together with Ortofon, whose split pole pins it adopts to achieve a flat frequency response.
Gold-plated RCA sockets and the power inlet are built into the plinth. The supplied lead, Connect it Phono E, has copper conductors and is semi-symmetrical: the screen is connected at one end only, and the end marked in yellow goes to the component receiving the signal. The lead can be replaced, and once fitted with a moving-coil pickup or with the Pick it PRO Balanced, the turntable can move up to a True Balanced connection. It is hand-built in Europe.
