The Debut PRO B is a belt-drive turntable with an 8.6-inch carbon and aluminium arm and the balanced Pick it PRO Balanced MM cartridge. It has a balanced mini XLR output next to the RCA pair, for those who want a True Balanced link to the phono stage.
Debut PRO B: the balanced connection
A cartridge is a balanced generator by nature, but the internal wiring of ordinary MM designs stops you making use of it. The Pick it PRO Balanced fitted to the Debut PRO B is an MM modified to make the whole balanced signal available, and the turntable brings it out through a mini XLR output alongside the RCA sockets. With a True Balanced cable and a balanced phono stage, such as Pro-Ject's Phono Box DS3 B or S3 B (bought separately), the connection rejects noise picked up along the way.
The 8.6-inch arm is a one-piece sandwich: the outer carbon layer supplies stiffness, the inner aluminium tube takes care of damping. Effective mass is 10 g, which also suits it to higher-grade MC cartridges. The bearing block is CNC-cut from one piece of aluminium and then nickel-plated. The arm base lets you set azimuth and VTA; height is continuously variable once two grub screws are slackened.
The 300 mm die-cast aluminium platter is balanced after casting, non-magnetic and damped by an inner TPE ring; it has a recess for the label that works with the Record Puck PRO, sold separately. An electronically regulated synchronous motor turns it via the belt: 33 and 45 rpm are chosen with a toggle, and for 78 rpm you fit the round belt supplied. The aluminium parts are nickel-plated for a hard, durable surface, and the three damped feet adjust in height.
