The Debut Reference 10 is a belt-drive turntable with a 10-inch carbon and aluminium arm, an acrylic platter and the Pick it PRO Balanced MM cartridge. It has balanced mini XLR and RCA outputs, for a True Balanced link to the phono stage.
Debut Reference 10: the design
The Debut Reference 10 platter is 300 mm acrylic, a material chosen for being acoustically inert, and it rests on a diamond-turned aluminium sub-platter, which can be machined to tighter tolerances than a plastic one. The motor draws current from a generator that recreates a clean sine wave, to the benefit of rotational stability. A button on the top plate switches between 33 and 45 rpm; for 78 you use the round belt provided.
The 10-inch arm is made in one piece, with a carbon and aluminium sandwich structure. Effective length is 254 mm, effective mass 16.6 g. Azimuth and VTA are adjustable: slacken two grub screws and the arm height moves continuously, so you can adapt to cartridges of different height or to another mat. The cartridge supplied is the Pick it PRO Balanced, a development of the Pick it PRO intended for balanced signal transmission.
The turntable has a True Balanced mini XLR output and, in addition, an RCA phono output. The former is at its best with a mini XLR cable and a balanced phono stage; for the latter the Connect it Phono E lead is supplied, with copper conductors. The aluminium parts are finished by diamond cutting, which leaves crisp edges. Three damped aluminium feet, adjustable in height, keep the deck level and limit acoustic feedback. It is hand-built in Europe.
