JukeBox S2 is a belt-driven turntable with an acrylic platter, a factory-fitted Pro-Ject Pick It 25A cartridge and, inside the same chassis, a phono stage, Bluetooth and a 2 x 50 W amplifier. It suits anyone after a vinyl system made of one unit and two loudspeakers.
JukeBox S2: the design
Within Pro-Ject's family of amplified record players, JukeBox S2 is the more mechanically refined version: a 300 mm acrylic disc replaces the standard platter and the cartridge is a Pick It 25A, developed by Pro-Ject itself. Preamplifier and power stage live inside the plinth, so it takes up no more room than an ordinary deck. The 50 W per channel into 4 ohms reach the loudspeakers from dedicated terminals at the rear.
The arm is aluminium, 8.6 inches long, with sapphire bearings and an effective mass of 8 g. Anti-skating and tracking force are both set at the factory: downforce is fixed at 18 mN, within a span that runs from 0 to 25 mN. The platter rides on a stainless steel spindle in a bronze bush and is turned by a silicone belt and a low-vibration synchronous motor fed from a DC supply. Changing between 33 and 45 rpm is done by hand. Dedicated feet isolate the chassis from the surface it stands on.
The unit does more than play records. Over Bluetooth it takes music from a phone or tablet, and the analogue line input accepts an outside source, a CD player for instance, which is then amplified just like the turntable. Besides the loudspeaker terminals there are three outputs on gold-plated sockets: fixed-level line, variable line and phono. The high-contrast display is on the top panel and an infrared remote handset comes with it.
In the carton, alongside the deck with its cartridge fitted, you get the remote with batteries, a felt mat, the dust cover, an adapter for 7-inch singles, the power supply, an Allen key, a stylus pressure gauge and gloves. Sold separately and not part of the package is the Juke Box Highpower Supply: according to Pro-Ject it gives as much as 50 % extra peak power and, thanks to its three-pin plug with a true earth, can cut hum and noise where the mains is troublesome. It is offered in several finishes.
