Pro-Ject Remote Box S2

The Remote Box S2 is an infrared transmitter driven from a smartphone over Bluetooth: with the free Box Control app it serves as a universal remote for Box Design units and for electronics from other brands.

Remote Box S2: the remote becomes an app

The idea is to get rid of handsets, which multiply and go missing. The Remote Box S2 sits near the system and sends out the infrared commands in their place; what to send is decided by the phone, Android or iOS, linked over Bluetooth. Pair the two devices, then pick the component to be controlled in the app.

Infrared codes for every Box Design product are already loaded, so with Pro-Ject electronics there is nothing to programme. The free Box Control app also handles third-party equipment that has an infrared receiver: the maker's page mentions televisions, receivers and DVD or Blu-ray players.

The Bluetooth link covers as much as 10 metres in line of sight with the aerial supplied. The metal case guards against vibration and interference, and the on/off button is on the front panel. Power is external at 5 V, with a maximum draw of 200 mA. The product is offered in more than one finish.
