The Q Acoustics Q SUB100 is the middle active subwoofer in the Q SUB family: a 254 mm woofer in a sealed box, four-stage digital amplification and DSP processing, for larger rooms and medium-sized speakers.
Q SUB100: 254 mm woofer and DSP for medium rooms
As the room grows, more radiating area is needed, and the Q SUB100 provides it with a 254 mm woofer. The maker presents it as a partner for the Concept speakers and for the other medium-sized passive models in the catalogue. The drive unit uses a steel chassis with a paper cone and a rubber surround, with a 38 mm voice coil flanked by an aluminium demodulation ring that limits distortion caused by inductance variations.
The cabinet is a sealed box: a choice that gives tight, focused bass, especially alongside digital correction, and that makes placement near walls or furniture simple because there is no reflex port. The walls are 18 mm MDF, the baffle is 36 mm thick and the structure is stiffened by internal bracing so that it stays stable even at high pressures. The amplifier module combines DSP, power supply and four digital output stages connected in a parallel bridged arrangement, which reduce output impedance and dissipated heat.
For integration with the system the DSP recognises the type and level of the input signal and sets the gain by itself, with stereo sources, active speakers or home cinema systems. A low-pass filter of adjustable frequency, phase inversion and delay control allow the subwoofer to be aligned with the speakers without calling in an installer. The Q SUB100 is offered in satin black (black grille) and satin white (grey grille).
