Neodymium magnet and nude diamond stylus
Rega Nd5 is an MM cartridge with N55 neodymium magnet, elliptical nude diamond stylus, aluminium cantilever, miniaturised generator and Rega three-point mounting.
Nd5 uses the technology platform of the new Nd series, developed to move Rega moving-magnet cartridges towards a more compact, lower-inductance structure. The generator employs an N55 neodymium magnet, miniaturised parallel coils and symmetrical geometry designed to improve channel balance and linearity. Compared with Nd3, the most obvious difference is the perfect elliptical nude diamond stylus mounted on the aluminium cantilever.

Nd generator
The cartridge uses a high-strength N55 magnet and miniaturised parallel coils wound in-house with 38-micron wire and 1275 turns. The air gap is optimised to improve linearity and reduce crosstalk, while lower generator inductance and impedance help extend high-frequency response. The complete architecture is hand assembled and checked to maintain correct symmetry between the two channels.
Body and stylus profile
The body is made from glass-filled PPS moulded to tight tolerances, combining rigidity with low mass. The aluminium cantilever carries a nude diamond stylus with a perfect elliptical profile, created by elliptically grinding synthetic polycrystalline diamond. This geometry improves tracking accuracy and allows more information to be retrieved from the groove than a basic bonded profile.
Miniaturised generators
The low-mass coils are wound directly by Rega and work with the powerful N55 magnet to create a more compact generator than traditional MM architectures. Reduced inductance and impedance help extend high-frequency behaviour, while the symmetrical construction is designed to maintain channel balance. The rigid body supports the generator without adding unnecessary mass and contributes to mechanical stability.
Pairing
Nd5 can also be ordered already fitted at the factory on the Planar 3 and Planar 6 turntables. Rega's three-point mounting makes installation easier on compatible tonearms and maintains the intended alignment when used on prepared Rega turntables. Rega specifies a tracking force of 1.75 g.
