Richard Strauss's Alpine Symphony with the photographs of Tobias Melle.
Alpensinfonie in pictures by Tobias Melle: the album
The tone poem tells of a mountain walk: the start at dawn, the forest, the pastures and the glacier up to the summit, then the way down in the storm and the sunset. Melle sets it beside his pictures of the Berchtesgaden Alps.
Mariss Jansons conducts the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra; photography, camera and direction are by Tobias Melle. The 2023 edition includes an audio commentary recorded by Boris Baginski and Tobias Melle.
